The graduate program in reading is designed to provide the necessary educational experiences for persons who are either preparing to or are already involved in working toward enhancing the reading and writing competencies of children and adults. The program seeks students who have an undergraduate degree and who wish to deepen and broaden their theoretical and practical knowledge about literacy education. Degree candidates are prepared to assume leadership roles in literacy education by serving as:
- Reading Specialists,
- Literacy Coaches,
- Interventionists,
- Clinicians,
- Diagnosticians,
- Program Coordinators, and
- Reading Supervisors.
Upon completion of the program of study all candidates receive a Master’s degree in Reading. Candidates may also choose to take a specific sequence of courses that lead toward the Reading Specialist endorsement. In addition, candidates may choose to complete a thesis or to complete course work only.
