The Chemistry Department has approximately 300 undergraduate chemistry majors and thirty graduate students in our program. We graduated 38 undergraduate students and 13 graduate students last year. Many of our graduates continue on in Pharmacy and Medical School programs, or in major PhD gaining programs in chemistry.

If you are undecided on a major and are looking for an intellectually exciting profession, chemistry can be a rewarding career. In 2007, the average starting salary for bachelor’s graduate in chemistry was $37,500 for Master’s, $50,000 and PhD’s $70,000. (Chemical and Engineering News, June 2, 2008). Chemists are employed in a variety of areas such as academia, industry research laboratories, government labs (homeland security, forensics, energy development), and the health professions.
